Close ups of the Coral Reef quilt

Once I had the background materials ironed together using fusible web (wonder under). I began embroidering.

Here is more embroidery

I had to add "Sweet Pea" our Sun Conure, bird. When Lucas was a baby, Sweet Pea took it upon himself to be Lucas' "protector" which included attacking Lucas' dad and anyone who wasn't Grandma (me) if that person tried to get near the baby. I loved it, everyone else... not so much.

Sweet Pea doesn't really go with the coral reef theme, but I added him to protect Lucas from bad dreams at night.

Now the embellisments or according to Lucas, "the touchy parts"

I finished Lucas' quilt at my sister's house in MO. I had great help. First was inspection by Ben the kitten.

And then there was the walk about by both kittens, Ben and Jerry.

Over all, the quilt was a success.

Lucas's Coral Reef and Ocean Quilt

Lucas (our grandson) requested a coral reef quilt with a hermit crab, dolphins and a tri-pod fish. I forgot the tripod fish, but he said, "that's okay, they're hard to find." So we decided the tripod fish was hiding behind a rock.
When Lucas first saw the quilt he said "Cool, its a touchy quilt." I had used yarn, ribbons and real shells along with embroidery and applique to make it 3D.

There was a problem with the quilt though. Ben and Lucas soon found out that underneath it lay the sleeping Tickle Monster, aka, Grandpa Roy.

After a thorough tickle and white meat grabbing session. The quilt and boys survived and it was upstairs to show off the quilt and play "Don't step on the poisonous jelly fish and get your toes bitten.
other than the smiles and thankyous, how did I know the quilt would be loved? Easy... nothing like a good book about whales and a quilt to cuddle under.
